PAX was commissioned and built in1905 by Boot in Leiderdorp and was converted to a LUXEMOTOR shape in 1954. There is a lot of history with the vessel including the original construction drawings.
The current owners purchased PAX from a Museum berth in Rotterdam in March 2015, after which she successfully crossed the channel and has undergone extensive structural and internal refurbishment. She was listed on the Historic Ships Register in the Netherlands (Pre Brexit).
Surveys and bills for work can be examined at request. The vessel can also be made available for out of water survey with sufficient notice and transfer of deposit 20% of the sale price. The vessel currently meets the structural requirements for insurance within the UK and Europe.
The current owners have gone to great lengths to maintain the vessel's original aesthetic and livery whilst creating a functional cottage like interior. The vessel enjoys the benefits of HIVE heating systems and Victron portal access making the vessel ideal for cruising and off grid set up.
The boat is currently moored on a residential mooring at Packet Boat Marina in Uxbridge which enjoys a prime location in the marina and a large established garden space. The mooring is transferable upon sale if you wish though this would attract a fee from the marina. More details of this cost can be established by contacting the marina directly.
The vessel has been fitted out to a very high standard by the current owners using the finest timbers, responsibly sourced from forest alliance timber merchants. There are a number of vintage and antique fittings that makes this vessel really unique but highly practical and functional.

The Main cabin entrance is mid ships port side via a set of doors and teak cabin hatch. A small descent takes you in to the U shaped Galley (measuring 2.9mL x 3.3mW) which form half of the main cabin living space. There is ample storage on shelves and cupboards. The washing machine and fridge freezer are neatly housed under a solid elm worksurface. Both Washing machine and fridge are just under 2 years old. The kitchen units are bespoke built from Pine and are of rustic country cottage feel. Units were built by Black Barn Crafts and the solid Elm worktop was commissioned through their saw mill and fitted by the current owners.
The main focus of the kitchen has to be the cream Heritage Duo Range. This provides hot domestic water, central heating and cooking. Next to this is an Ikea double gas hob (with safety gas shut-off) for summer cruising when you don’t want to fire the range up but still pop the kettle on.
Turning astern and adjoining the Galley is the Salon (measuring 4mLx 3.3mW). A large open space that currently comfortably holds a 2.5 seat sofa bed*, a folding dining table and chairs* and is heated by the 1950’s Godin pot belly stove which was rescued from a French Chateaux, the fire surround is adorned with turn of the century decorative ceramic tiles. All floors in these spaces are solid Merbau and regularly oiled with Osmo oils for a natural matt finish. There are two cast iron radiators.
Following through from the main cabin takes you in the engine room (measuring 1.8L x 3.6mW). There is a bench for tool storage and lots of underfloor spaces for storage of various equipment and engine spares. The lighting is provided by two bulkheads and a hanging pendant above the engine. The engine room is not insulated and so all of the original steel work is exposed.
Continuing through to the Master Cabin (measuring 3.2mL x 3.4mW) where you will find a fixed double bed with fitted draws underneath and freestanding storage too. The master cabin has a cast iron radiator and is also home to a Pipsqueak wood burner and an eco electric space heater, fully programmable. There is an inspection hatch fitted to access the propeller shaft and bearing. The master cabin is housed is the Luxemotor cabin so there is ample light from the four opening teak framed windows, pigeon box and two portholes. You can also access the wheelhouse from the cabin via a locking sliding door and hatch.
There are spaces either side of the head of the bed with reading lights and are topped with recycled Iroko wood.
Up in to the solid teak framed wheelhouse which offers panoramic views and is a cosy space to sit and watch the world go by or read a book. The wheelhouse is fully collapsible in under 10mins but is a two person job. When collapsed the sections can be stored neatly on the roof of the Luxemotor cabin without increasing the air draft of the vessel. A large bench area offers seating for four people whilst cruising along but can also serve a great napping space in the summer!
Returning to the main entrance and heading forward in the ship is a small corridor with lots of hanging space for coats and shoes. Off the corridor to starboard is the second cabin (measuring 2mL x 2.3mW). Fitted with single cabin hand made cabin bed and antique pine chest of draws this space also cleverly houses the heating fuel tank (500l) beneath the cabin bed. It is heated by a cast iron radiator and is the only room in the vessel to be carpeted. This room serves as a great guest bedroom or retreat for reading. Lighting is via 3 vintage bus lights with incandescent lamps. It has 240v service and houses the fuel gauge for the domestic heating fuel tank.
Continuing forward of the second cabin you will find a luxurious full width bathroom. It houses a free standing roll top bath and shower, Savoy toilet and ceramic sink. All taps are are restored solid brass from the Victorian era. Descretly hidden in this space is the heating plant with clever access panels hidden in to the hand made mosaic that borders the room. The heating is provided by a brass and blue enamel large towel rail though because of the heating plant it never gets cold in this space. The floor is sold oak parquet in a Herringbone pattern.
Pax has been fitted out to be able to support the electrical demands of living on board without using mains hook up. Designed for cruising, PAX has the latest VICTRON systems and has reporting and remote capabilities through the VICTRON Portal (Internet connection required). The Vessel has both 12v DC and 240v AC that run through the VICTRON inverter and solar Controller.
The System has been programmed by the current owners to switch between grid and Solar/ Batteries as the system requires. This can be programmed to your requirements at point of sale if you require.
The domestic lighting is all 12v DC and fittings are from 1940’s buses and retro fitted with LED for energy Efficiency.
There are ample 240v AC sockets discreetly placed around the vessel.

S Plan heating system running from the Heritage Duo Diesel Range in cream. This heats 7 cast Iron black radiators with brass fittings (just over two years old) and wall stays. This is controlled via a HIVE thermostat and remote application.
There are also two solid fuel stoves. A large Godin pot belly in the main cabin and a Pipsqueak in the master bedroom.
The barge will be sold with all equipment to cruise the UK's Inland Waterways including full sets of warps, windlass', keys and safety equipment.

The engine is a marine Kromhout 3LS providing 32Hp at 1200RPM (Max). The engine has undergone total mechanical and aesthetic restoration by Marine Power Services (restoration can be viewed at:https://www.marinepowerservices.co.uk/engines/past-engines/114-1948-kromhout-gardner-3ls-lw ). Bills, reports and photographs of the entire restoration process can be requested and will be provided with the sale of the boat.
The Engine is coupled to a BREVO reversing gear and drop shaft 2:1 reduction gear.
Engine controls are all mechanical controlled from the wheel house.
A 70Amp alternator is coupled to the engine to provide charging to electrical systems whilst cruising.
The cooling is via keel pipes with a manual circulation valve. There is a brass thermometer mounted to the engine as well as an electrical gauge in the wheel house connected to an alarm system.
